What is Hypertension?
Hypertension is a condition in which the force of blood flowing through the arteries remains consistently higher than normal. Over time, elevated blood pressure places additional strain on the heart and blood vessels, increasing the risk of long-term cardiovascular complications.
Hypertension may develop due to obesity, excessive salt intake, chronic stress, lack of physical activity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, family history, diabetes, kidney disorders, or advancing age. Furthermore, poor dietary habits and unhealthy lifestyle choices may significantly increase the risk of developing high blood pressure.
Many individuals experience no symptoms during the early stages. However, some may develop headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, fatigue, or nosebleeds when blood pressure becomes significantly elevated. Therefore, regular blood pressure monitoring is essential for early diagnosis and effective management.
According to Ayurveda, hypertension is often associated with an imbalance of Vata and Pitta Doshas, disturbed mental health, weakened digestion (Agni), and toxin accumulation (Ama). Ayurveda focuses on balancing the doshas, reducing stress, improving circulation, supporting heart health, and promoting long-term wellness through personalized herbal therapies, balanced nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices.
