What is Addiction?
Addiction is a condition in which an individual becomes physically or psychologically dependent on a substance or behavior despite its harmful effects. Long-term addiction may affect multiple organs, emotional health, and social relationships.
Addiction may develop due to chronic stress, anxiety, depression, peer influence, family history, emotional trauma, social pressures, or repeated substance use. Furthermore, unhealthy coping mechanisms may increase dependence over time.
Common symptoms include strong cravings, withdrawal symptoms, irritability, anxiety, mood swings, poor concentration, disturbed sleep, reduced productivity, and difficulty controlling substance use. Therefore, early intervention and professional support are essential for successful recovery.
According to Ayurveda, addiction is associated with imbalances in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha Doshas, along with disturbances in mental balance (Manas) and weakened vitality (Ojas). Ayurveda focuses on detoxification, restoring emotional balance, strengthening the nervous system, improving digestion, and supporting overall recovery through personalized herbal therapies and healthy lifestyle practices.
